Hiatus

I will probably be away from the blogging universe for a few days. I have an ear infection/ sinus infection/ bronchitis triple whammy, and I'm resting and sleeping A LOT.

I should return right around the new year. So Happy New Year everyone!

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas everyone! I hope the everyone is having a wonderful holiday with all of their family and friends!

First off, I want to say a very special Happy Christmas to all of the amazing and wonderful ladies that I have met this year in the Blog Universe. You are all so special and wonderful, and I really feel that my life is so much richer with the friends that I have made this year.

Secondly, Happy Christmas to Tina, Steve, Katie, Michelle, and Jaya. I miss all of you so very much and wish that I could steal away to New York sooner than the spring!

Last night, John and I started a new tradition for our first Christmas together. I made my first Christmas bird (a capon, which I'm told, is a castrated rooster) and had Emy and Karen over for dinner. I love to do dinner on Christmas Eve, and it was so wonderful to have my close friends here over for a night of merriment!

Here's the spread - capon, garlic & rosemary mashed potatoes, shallot & garlic green bean, and wheat bread with artichoke spread.

And of course, a great shot of the bird.

Karen insisted on getting a shot of me carving.

Here's John and Karen digging in.

And Emy, always in a darling pose!

This morning, I woke John up to tell him that Santa had spoiled him silly. All those presents under the tree are for him.

He did get me some gifts too! Two knitting books; More Sensational Knitted Socks and The Best of Interweave Knits. I've had my eye on both of those for some time now. A $30 gift card to the LYS, and in my stocking there were stitch markers, needles (for weaving in ends), point protectors, one of those cool yarn cutting pendants, lotto tickets, and chocolate. Wonderful presents I must say! And after I gave Mavy all her toys and treats, she decided to attack her stocking! Beware the Ghost of Christmas Past Kitty eyes.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Work Christmas Party

Working night shift, you tend to always get shafted when they have the staff parties and roving dinners during the holidays. So on Night Shift, we decided to have our own party. It was a really fun event, with loads of food and good laughs. I went in on my night off because I wouldn't miss it for the world. And, alas, I managed to get some pictures.

This is Stephanie and myself. She's the one who is expecting, that I am knitting the baby sweater for.

This is Misty and Jenny.

The lovely Leslie

And I actually managed to get a shot of my nurse Jan, who I work with every night. I just love this picture. She also gave me a great Christmas ornament. It's a red ball with gold lettering, and has the year on it. Our first dated Christmas ornament!

And Wilma, another one of the awesome nurses there that I work with, got me this ornament! It's a deer in a sweater, and she's holding a basket of yarn and needles. BTW ladies ... it's a Hallmark ornament, in case you go looking for it.

Alright - off to bed with me. I'm working this weekend (pout) but I get Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off (cheer!) If I don't blog again, have a great holiday everyone!

Wedding Goodness

Today was so much fun! Karen and Emy joined me for a trip to Cumberland, MD, to try on and pick out what they are wearing for the wedding! Katie and Tina - oh how I wish you could have been there too! I was a bit shaky so the pictures weren't the greatest, so I've posted the ones from the website. Emy, my Maid of Honor, will be in all eggplant, and Karen, Tina, and Katie will have eggplant colored tops and black bottoms.

Spoiled Early

How blessed am I? I had TWO packages come this week .... early Christmas treats that I couldn't resist opening as soon as they came in.

The first one if from my Secret Sock Pal. Wonderful yarn, hot cocoa mix, shortbread, and some Burt's Bees samples! Thank you so much Sock Pal!

And the second was a complete surprise to me! Anne, who is currently celebrating Christmas with her family in Alaska, sent me a box of goodies! A bucket of Christmas candies, a little knitted hat ornament, Christmas note cards, Christmas tissues, and some very good smelling soap! Anne .. thank you so much. It was too sweet of you to send it!

Today was a busy one for me. Mom called and told me that Home Instead Senior Care needed some help wrapping and delivering gifts to their elderly clients. It was such a wonderful thing, to see the little old ladies' faces light up with joy. To cry with them and to rejoice with them was one of the best Christmas gifts I have received in a long time. I picked up the capon (it's like a goose) that I am making for Christmas Eve dinner, a few last minute gifts that Mom needed, and ran up to work on my day off to turn in items for the family we adopted. Busy, busy day.

Emy is home, and we talked for a while on the phone. I decided to tell her the sweater fiasco, and she said that she likes big sweaters, so she may end up with it after all. We'll see tomorrow after she tries it on.

Well folks, I'm beat. I'm going to finish watching A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart, grab another beer, and put my feet up!
